Default The Pick-Up Posse

Wow, Jean ... you're on a roll!! First, you were the brain child of the recent "Ventnor Goes Green" flotilla event, and now you are on a mission to clean the streets of Ventnor. I commend you on your concerned efforts and innovative ideas to help make our community a more beautiful and "green" place to live.

Exclamation Who's Who?

There was some talk about the Pickup Posse at the Commissioners' Workshop last night. No one knew who put this together. Commissioner Weintrob said something about the Public Works Department and coordinating. Not sure what he was driving at.

Let's see: people + work gloves + trash bags + a place to dump the trash (the City dump?). Seems pretty simple to me. No need to put City employees on overtime.

For the sake of keeping our FBI files clean, please identify the organizers.

I'll try to make it and I hope to see lots of butts and elbows.

Default No secret

Hi everyone,
I, Jean Antolini, longtime Ventnor resident thought it would be a good idea to try and change the perception of the City from the inside out. Let's start with the year round residents and hope that Ventnor City pride grows.

Exclamation Great Citizen Initiative

Thank you Jean for your contributions. We need more people like you. Everything does not need to be done by government. This summer, the Gladiators from the Dragon Boat of Gilda's Club and members of the Viking Club cleaned up the marshes in the bay. At City Hall, there is a corps of volunteers who pitch in at the Mayor's front office to deal with the public and answer phone calls, all at a saving to the city. There are other volunteers working on various projects. A great spirit can be felt in Ventnor. We can all be grateful for that.

Thumbs up NOTICE: From the Pickup Posse!

The following arrived via e-mail late yesterday from WLV's new Town heroine, Jean!

Pickup Posse Has "Special Need" Before 9/27/08

Quote:
I would like to post an open letter to Ventnor residents.

The grassroots organization, "The Pickup Posse" went for a trial run today to map out our first area for cleaning on Saturday Sept. 27th. We have chosen the area between Cambridge Avenue and Troy Avenue. When we came upon the Ventnor Municipal parking lot we realized we had our hands full. A true dumping ground of alcohol containers and garbage.

I am asking anyone who has lawn equipment to volunteer to edge and weed wack the frontage on Newport Avenue. The small patch of grass that the scrub pines sit on.

We attempted to start picking up the garbage but the edging and weeds over growing on the sidewalk made it look like we had done nothing.

We would so appreciate anyone who could possibly do that before we do our cleanup. It will make a difference to a real eyesore on that street.

Thank you,

Jean Antolini

If anyone can help, Jean has provided her e-mail for you to get in touch and let her know.

THANKS!

Default Come out, come out whoever you are beach6

Mom's answer to this from beach6: "no offense to the pick up party but what are the city workers doing all day ? do we need more employees ? the city yard is a mess / if they cant work a few hours a day then get rid of them / this city should be shining / i know they arent up there working on the boardwalk ! "

Tsk! Tsk! Shame on you Sonny. Aren't you complaining about the same people hired by Former Commissioner Vespertino and Former Mayor Kreischer? I may be a Granny but I can remember you. You do have a vile tongue. My friends at Bingo tell me you are probably Kreischer or Abbott or even maybe that money lady with her fingers in the redevelopment. Do you need another public spanking? Or maybe those boys in public works should pay you a visit. You can tell them to their face.

(I'm so proud of my grade school grandson! He helped me with this. )

Default Thanks Jean

We can either spend the next 2 weeks arguing about it or get out there and take care of it before the "Pick-up Posse" arrives. We'll get to it this week Jean, thanks.
