Lightbulb FEATURE: "Hot Issue"

This is a locked Post where a "Hot Issue" will be featured on a rotating and updated basis. The inaugural issue was Ventnor West and the dredge spoils site. That information has now been moved to an Archives thread at

For the present there are two "Hot Issues" and one is suited for summer, and a resort town. It consists of the evolving Summer Recreation Calendar of Events. That link is here:

SUMMER EVENTS CALENDAR

The other "Hot Issue" relating to civic affairs revolves around the reform efforts underway by the newly elected Administration, and information which is expected to come to light about the status of city finances. It was learned that a bond issue was authorized but never floated to finance construction of the pier. Cash in Current Funds accounts had been getting used to pay the contractor, even as the pier's completion is nearly at hand. A post with further details is at

Updates will be posted on this and other taxpayer pocketbook topics.

Update #1 (7/17/08): Information about the need to put out $2.936 Million in bond anticipatory notes for the pier, and a discovery about 4,000 water meters needing either replacement batteries or outright replacement, is provided in this post.

Update #2 (7/31/08): More information about the finances, an emergency meeting on July 29th, and the need to put out Tax Revenue Anticipation notes to meet current funding obligations on basic city operations.

Update #3 (7/10/08): Discovery of a rupture in a sewer line resulted in initial warnings and a need for further warnings until the problem is resolved.

Update #4 (9/22/08): The pier is re-emerging as a potential "Hot Issue" amid reports of potentially stolen railings and a "tip" that there was a document (later discovered) which would show that its pilings never got driven.

The reform agenda of the new city administration was readily apparent in the June 19th meeting Agenda, which can be viewed here

and the media reaction to the eminent domain reform measure, reported here

http://www.ventnorevoice.com/bulleti...read.php?t=589

Update #5 (10/7/08): Service of subpoena to deliver documents to Grand Jury garners forums discussion and later headlines.

Rumors of a potential purchasing group which "might" seek to acquire and demolish the Ventnor Theatre prompted the following posts:

This is a courtesy link to a matter reported in the Election 2008 Forum.

http://www.ventnorevoice.com/bulleti...st1305post1305

WLV learned late Friday afternoon (March 28th) that the City Building Inspector had cited the owners of the Ventnor Twin for the political signs put up on their marquee.

Last week's "late-breaking news" related to an incident at the VECC.

http://www.ventnorevoice.com/bulleti...read.php?t=268

Atlantic County Superintendent of Elections John Mooney was in touch with VECC's Superintendent of Education, the incident was verified, the faculty/staff was informed about the law, and the authorities were to investigate the matter.

And in other "warm news" the WeLoveVentnor returned surveys are being tabulated and reported at this link:
