City looking to hire part-time tax assessor

City Commissioner John Piatt is scheduled to start interviewing candidates today to become the town's new tax assessor, a job left open by the departure last month of William Johnson.

Piatt, the commissioner of revenue and finance, says the city is looking to hire someone part-time and is willing to be flexible about work hours, including possibly nights or weekends. He plans to interview the first candidate today and will consider anyone with valid state certification as a tax assessor.

"I've put out feelers to some people in the ... profession, and some of them have given me recommendations, people who are already tax assessors working in local communities, people who are part-time in other areas," he said.

But he'll consider a full-time assessor in another town who's willing to be part-time in Ventnor or a retired assessor who has kept up the necessary certification, he added. Piatt said city officials are trying to get a feel for how many hours the job needs and the best times to keep the office open for taxpayers who need to deal with the assessor. He invited anyone interested in the job to call him at 609-823-7900.
The relevant Resolution at the February 19th meeting was as follows:

Quote:
RESOLUTION NO. 20 OF 2009 – ACCEPTING RESIGNATION OF TAX ASSESSOR

WHEREAS, William Johnson has submitted a letter of resignation from his position as Ventnor City Tax Assessor effective at the close of business on February 18, 2009; and

WHEREAS, the Ventnor City Board of Commissioners has agreed to accept the resignation of William Johnson as Ventnor City Tax Assessor.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Ventnor City Board of Commissioners that it herein and hereby accepts the resignation of William Johnson as Ventnor City Tax Assessor effective February 18, 2009.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.

Cmr Weintrob moved, seconded by Cmr Piatt that Resolution No. 20 of 2009 be adopted.

Roll Call Vote:
Yeas: Commissioners Piatt, Weintrob and Mayor Kelly

I was looking up sales for Ventnor a few weeks ago and none of the high priced properties are moving. How they can calculate comparables. Anybody know the answer?
