The following photographs were taken on 9/27/07 and recently arrived in the general WLV e-mail Inbox ("Contact Us" button) with a request for their publication on the Forums. The camera-imprinted date stamp of the photos verified the date. The photos suggest that the immediate corrective actions recommended in the 2003 E.P. Ryan Report were never undertaken. The Ryan Report is available for download from this website from this link:

Isn't this why we are getting a new pier??? Do you really think 99% of Ventnor voters give a hoot about this nonsense??

People who want to send photos to WeLoveVentnor@gmail.com with a request for them to be uploaded and posted are welcome to do so. That's what happened in this case. The embedded remarks in the pictures were already there. The e-mail came in over-the-transom. That is how WLV got some of the other photos published here.
Thank you for your comments. |

Its my understanding that the 2002 Eng. report posted at this site stated that the Pier's railings even back then posed a clear and present danger to the public. You have to wonder why this situation wasn't handled in the normal maintenance of the Pier and also why warnings about these conditions were never posted along the length of the Pier over the course of the next 5 yrs? It seems odd considering this is the same administration that tore down a 1/4 mile of an Army Shore Protection Project in spring 2005 claiming it in fact endangered public safety because people might fall down its 6 ft. sand cliffs ( in a few places) trying to enter the beach. Those Pier railings stood 20-30+ ft. above the beach and the ocean in places, but nobody at that time or for yrs later called for the Pier's removal on safety grounds?

A target deadline of April 15th was announced in this January article, along with quotes from City Engineer Richard Carter that the railings might be changed.
